What makes the new 2012 VW Passat Commercial so brilliant; so memorable?

Is it the fact that the acting of the little boy is so believable? Is it the fact that they have the boy walking around in a Star Wars costume?

Is it the fact that they licensed the lightsaber noise and Darth Vader theme, John Williams’ the iconic “The Imperial March”?

No. In fact it’s none of these.

The commercial works because there is a story presented in less than a minute.

The story is what makes the Star Wars fans giggle with glee, the parents tear up at the end and everyone else remember the commercial even after seeing it only once.

Brilliant.

Catch it live during the SuperBowl…or just hit play below

Gucci hired Frank Miller, the man behind the blockbuster movies 300 and Sin City to create a film for their new campaign.

The company unleashed a new fragrance and they created a fantastically easy-to-navigate eye-candy of a Facebook page to promote the online video Miller created to promote the commercial he film designed to push the perfume. Try saying that ten times fast!

“A white sports car screeches across a dystopian cityscape – a beautiful blonde at the wheel. Her blazing tires screech to a halt, and she steps out to survey her hunting ground. Savoring the night air she remembers: a night, a man, her choice… a perfume.”

Anyone remember the Ridley Scott commercial that introduced the Apple Macintosh Computer to the world in 1984?

The Superbowl had more winners and losers this year than just those who played a ball game on that grass.

The Doritos spots were inventive, but not really impressive (I’m wondering if those were really the best of the submitted ads for their annual super bowl video contest).

Some of our own favorites were most definitely the E-trade babies, the Simpsons Coke ad, and The Griswold’s cameo in the Home Away spot.

The winner for us hands down though, was the Google ad. It cost practically nothing and had a storyline that was cute and could connect with both males and females (a LARGE majority of the ads this year had a machoman tint to them, which only works at alienating the multitudes of ladies that love watching the game).
